I am a qualified counsellor based in Kingswinford, West Midlands, offering face to face, online and telephone counselling to adults and young people.
My approach and how I can help
You may be experiencing a challenging period in your life and the coping strategies you use are no longer working anymore. You may simply want to learn more about why you do the things you do, even when you know they aren't particularly helpful for you. Sometimes, we can’t change what is going on around us but we do have some control on how we react to these situations and this can really help when life is feeling overwhelming.
Some of the difficulties that I can help with include: Anxiety driven problems, Depression, Grief and Relationship difficulties. Childhood trauma and the impact this has on present relationships, Health related difficulties (to include Health Anxiety), Eating Disorders to include Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge eating Disorder and ARFID and other non specified eating related problems. This list is not exhaustive, however, represents common problems that I work with in my daily practice and are particular areas of interest for me.
I work as an integrative counsellor; In simple terms this means that I will use more than one therapeutic approach and tailor this to you as an individual. No human is the same and what works for one, will not be helpful for another. The main approaches I use are:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Approaches(CBT)
This focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions.
90 minute single session therapy
Sometimes you may not know what you want from therapy or you may have a problem that is really troubling you and feel compelled to need to talk about this. You may have received counselling before but a difficulty is resurfacing again for you and you want to talk it through in a safe and unbiased way but don’t want the commitment of long term therapy. In these instances, a 90 minute session can be beneficial. These sessions aim to be focused and it may be helpful for you to come prepared with what you feel you need from the session.
Psychodynamic Approach
Working with you to understand the influence of your past and how this affects your present.
Person Centred Approach
Helps to guide you to develop a strong and healthy sense of self "Your authentic self"
Dialectical Behaviour Informed Approaches (DBT)
Helping you understand and accept the difficult feelings you may have.
